Barefoot running...

While my oldest daughter was practicing volleyball last night, I took advantage of the track for some running. I have been thinking/reading about barefoot running recently.

Basic thoughts on barefoot running- the foot/leg is a very effective shock absorber and is much better than a shoe IF you allow them to do their job. The modern shoes with all of the cushion and suppport changes the way we run, which results in injuries.

I ran 400m (one lap) on the track with shoes to inspect the track. Okay. Next, 400m without shoes ON the track. The track kinda hurts. The rest of the mile (3 laps) just off of the track in the grass. The grass feels much better. Then I ran another 2 easy miles with shoes on. I could feel a difference in the way that I was running. My feet seemed to be always pointing down. Kinda like I was running downhill. I need more of this to ingrain the feeling.

Downside - I have a couple of blisters on my toes and the balls of my feet from the track.
